Mokkit vs shots.so

shots.so is the tool everyone knows. Four years of features, a huge device library, and dozens of animation presets. Mokkit is a few months old. So why would you consider it?

The honest take

shots.so has more of everything right now. More devices (Android, iPad, iMac, Apple Watch), more screenshot styles (Liquid Glass, Inset), visual effects we don't have (VHS, Glitch, 3D shapes), and a library of animation presets that lets you pick a look and export in seconds.

Mokkit is building from a different starting point. Instead of preset-driven animations, we built a full keyframe timeline where you control every transition, its easing, and its duration individually. Instead of gating features behind a paywall before you can even try them, we let you preview everything for free. And instead of charging $12/month for formats like WebP, we include it at $7.

Unlike shots, we natively support URL screenshots: paste a URL, pick a viewport that matches your device, and the screenshot lands directly in your frame. No browser extension, no manual screenshotting.

When to use shots.so

If you need Android, iPad, or iMac frames, shots.so has them and we don't. If you want preset-based animations where you pick a style and export immediately without touching a timeline, shots.so is faster for that. If you rely on visual effects like VHS or Glitch overlays, or 3D shapes in your compositions, shots.so is the only option between the two. It is the more mature product with the bigger feature set.

When to use Mokkit

If you want to try every feature before you pay. On Mokkit, you can set up a full composition with any device, background, shadow overlay, lens blur, and animation. The upgrade prompt only appears when you hit Export. No locked UI, no greyed-out buttons, no "upgrade to see this."

If you want full control over your animations. Mokkit's keyframe timeline lets you set individual before and after transitions on every keyframe, pick easing curves, overlap keyframes for direct transitions, and fine-tune timing. It is closer to a motion design tool than a preset picker.

If you need to capture a website and frame it in one step. Paste a URL, select a viewport (or let it match your current device), toggle full-page capture, and the screenshot drops directly into your composition.

If you want WebP or high-res exports without the premium tier. Mokkit Pro at $7/month includes WebP and 4K exports. On shots.so, WebP requires the $12/month plan.

Pricing

Both tools have a free tier with no watermarks. shots.so has two paid plans at $8 and $12/month. Mokkit has Pro at $7/month (4K exports, 30fps video, WebP, 10 video exports/month) and Pro Max at $12/month (6K, 60fps, unlimited video, transparent WebM). The main pricing difference is WebP: $12 on shots.so, $7 on Mokkit.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mokkit a shots.so replacement?

Not yet. shots.so has been around for four years and has more features: more devices, 3D shapes, VFX effects, and hundreds of animation presets. Mokkit is newer and more focused. If you need everything shots.so offers, use shots.so. If you want a simpler tool with a generous free tier and a full animation timeline, Mokkit is worth trying.

Can I try Mokkit before paying?

Yes. Every feature in Mokkit is available to try for free. You can set up a full composition with any background, effect, device, and animation. The paywall only appears when you export. shots.so gates some features before you can even preview them.

Which is cheaper for video export?

Both offer video export on paid plans. Mokkit Pro ($7/month) includes 30fps MP4 and WebP export. shots.so requires their $12/month plan for the same WebP format. For basic MP4 export, pricing is comparable.

Does Mokkit have Android or iPad mockups?

Not yet. Mokkit currently supports iPhone 16 and 17 models, MacBook Pro 14 and 16 inch, and browser frames. Android, iPad, and other devices are on the roadmap.

Can I capture a URL and put it in a device frame?

Yes. Mokkit has a built-in URL screenshot tool that captures any website at the viewport size matching your selected device. Full-page capture and automatic cookie banner removal are included. shots.so does not have this feature.
